David Ochieng, a pastor from Uganda, gave up his ministry after winning a sizable sum through sports betting.
According to local media, he won N21 million (100 million UGX) and shut down his church, leaving his congregation in shock and dismay.
He closed down the facility and left his congregation members stranded when they arrived for midweek worship after realizing that he is now 100 million shillings richer.
Visitors from the church were horrified to see that the gate was barred and that the pastor had been languishing in poverty for many years.
The pastor was approached, and he said that the only reason he opted to labor in God’s vineyard was to earn money to survive, not because he felt called to do.
Ochieng went on to say that the victory was a gift from God and that it would help him escape the poverty he was experiencing because he was unable to support himself from the donations he received from his underprivileged flock.
