In the Aponmu community of Akure, the capital of Ondo State, a 75-year-old Woman known as Iforiti Oloro is accused of setting her son, his wife, and two grandchildren on fire.
According to reports, the house was set on fire at midnight by the grandmother who shares a compound with the biological son. She reportedly got out of bed while the family was sleeping.
According to a resident and eyewitness in the community, the family’s home was discovered to be on fire on Saturday about 2:00am while the occupants were still inside.
“I had to help my neighbors in smashing the windows to get inside so we could put out the fire. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the fire had already claimed the lives of Victor Oloro, his wife Racheal, and their two children, Blessing and Toluwani.“
“Due to the severity of the burns sustained from the blaze, the state hospital in Akure turned them away, so we quickly moved them to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo. Unfortunately, we lost the last child at the hospital, and the man and his wife passed away on Sunday night. Just the firstborn, who is in a serious state, is still alive.”
According to reports, the septuagenarian admitted to setting the structure on fire because her son and his wife were allegedly depriving her of food.
State police spokeswoman Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya confirmed the event and stated that the local divisional police officer DPO, was still awaiting the incident’s specifics. “please give me more time to get the information.” She stated.
