Nollywood stars, family members, colleagues and associates gathered at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, on Wednesday night to celebrate the life and legacy of veteran actor Olu Jacobs.
The Night of Tributes brought together prominent figures in the entertainment industry, who remembered Jacobs for his professionalism, humility, mentorship and immense contribution to Nigerian theatre and film.
Richard Mofe-Damijo described Jacobs as a father figure whose influence helped shape the careers of many actors, while Sola Sobowale praised his exceptional talent, kindness and humility.
Segun Arinze and Fred Amata also highlighted his dedication to the craft and the lasting standards he set for generations of actors.
Born on July 11, 1942, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Jacobs trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before building a successful career in theatre, television and film.
He received several honours during his career, including the MFR national honour, the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
The gathering celebrated Jacobs’ enduring impact on Nigerian entertainment and his role in mentoring younger talents.
His funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 2, at This Present House, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
